I’ve had a bad rattling in my car’s exhaust system for a couple months now; I took the car in to the dealership where I had all my warranty and maintenance done for the last 5 years, and they told me that the heat shield was broken and I needed to replace the muffler and the intermediate pipe – for $725. I didn’t do that, because I thought the cost was unreasonable, but put off going for a second opinion because I thought I’d still need to come up with a couple hundred to fix it. So I finally made it in to Dualtone Muffler in Mission Bay – my family had taken cars there for years, and I knew they’d always been good before. When I got there, the repair guy put the car up on the lift and checked it out. He showed me one corner of the heat shield where the weld had broken loose; when he held down the corner – voila! No more rattling! He did the repair while I waited, and I saved over $700! I love these guys!!
