Good Charlotte is an awesome punk band to me mostly because of their lyrics. Their sound is also good but if you want to rate it on origionality you'll find that their roots are swing, blues, and even those good old fashion barber shop quartets. These themes are emphisised with the loudness of rock and hidden by their appeal to modern pop. Still no pop band can say that they had GC's sound first. As new punk is currently leaning in the same direction GC's is leading the way in lyrics that cry out over the pains that everybody faces and fighting the good fight that doesn't always mean you know the right thing to do is.

Unfortunately there is one major hinderance to this band. First, you should know that any fan of theirs knows that they often complain about the "lifestyles of the rich and famous" making it clear that those with wealth have no room to complain about their own problems in GC's opinion. Here's my poorboy complaint, their last album "The chronicles of life and death" has two versions to it, a life version and a death version. The only difference between the two is a hidden track at the end of each album which is a different song for each version. As beautiful as those songs may be I find that in doing this they are commiting a blatent marketing scam which is quite contradictory to their otherwise rightous message. In this instance I personally will believe that the damn dirty vipers of the record industry put them up to this, mostly because in a few of the songs in that album I sense their guilt in now being wealthy. I will forgive them this time and encourage their fans to do the same just this once without forgetting about it next time. At the same time while I can't tell you all to rebel and steal the one song of the version that you didn't get I will say that any one that does steal it is giving GC and the record industry what they deserve. GC is only lucky to still have fans after that stunt. Personally, I won't steal anything, infact I haven't even heard the the death version hidden track song yet. I have the life version myself and the last track is my favorite song of theirs despite this issue. I even sang the song at my church as a testimony and everybody there loved it. Sorry if this review sounds too insane though, I guess you just have to check them out for yourself to understand. - Steve , posted 03/08/05
