Opinion on O'Brien's pub
I been to this pub before and it was decent, but I'll never set foot in the place again after reading the article from SignsOnSanDiego.

Looks like O'Briens pub is discriminating against Honduras soccer fans who just want to watch the game. According to the article a Honduras fan called up and asked about the game, and was told 'American soccer fans only!!

That's beyond racist in this period of time. When the pub got wind about the story, they changed their tune just a little. Saying the Honduras fan can watch the game if the remain quiet, no cheering for their teen or they get kicked out!

This is unheard of for a "sports bar" no cheering or you get kicked out.!

Latin Americans are big soccer fans, and with all the people going to see the game, O"brien's could have hired extra security instead of coming up with racist bar polices.

I hope others join me and boycott O"Brien's until they change their racist polices.

Owner response to review
I am the owner of O'Brien's Pub and I have to refute the review by "Jeff" from 9-10-07. This guy came into our pub and picked a fight with one of the bartenders and then started swearing at her. We refunded his money and then asked him to leave. He then proceded to flame us on three different internet sites he had never logged onto - all in one day.
I never tolerate the customers abusing the employees. They work hard and should not be insulted, talked down to or unnecessarily berated. We try to promote a friendly atmosphere for all of our patrons. O'Brien's has 20 draft beers, more than 120 bottles and a full menu of better than average pub grub. If you would like to see what we are all about, please visit our website or stop by for a beer - we are close to almost everyone being in Kearny Mesa. Cheers, Tom Nickel - owner, O'Brien's. - Tom , posted 09/19/07

good beer, lousy site and staff
Good selection of standard beers. Main complaint: they serve Real Ale only on Thursdays. The other six days, it's the pressurized, pasteurized stuff that you can get at any yuppie bar.

The site has the grungy tackiness that small-town pub owners and insecure teenagers think is cool. The staff is not well chosen. At least some of them are angry and surly, as if they have to take a lot of crap from the boss for small wages.

Enjoyable if you've had three or four beers before you arrive. - Jeff , posted 09/10/07

Beer Madness
This place is just awesome. Best beer selection in town, Belgians and all. The staff is all really cool and the place is dog friendy. Nuff said! - primordia , posted 04/12/06

Trick
This is by *far* the best beer bar in San Diego. To hell with the others, this is my local watering hole. Tom is a great guy, and his staff is top drawer. Great food, great prices, and a patio to smoke Shermans.

Ask yourself one question, son. Do you really have the moxie to explore the bottled Belgians?

everything good about an English pub, without cutsey wannabe kitsch
O'Brien's is the closest thing San Diego has to an English neighborhood pub -- in feel, not looks! A friendly place with a stellar selection of beer, it's a place where you can hang out with friends, or sit alone reading a book, or take a date, and in every case feel right at home. - Sator , posted 11/11/05

Insanely fine beer that you won't find elsewhere!
Owned and run by the head brewer from Oggi's pizza, Tom Nickel, O'Brien's has the finest (and extensive) selection of local and microbrewed beers around. His taste in excellent beers will help you explore your own; they also have a patio, great food, and a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere! - Jenni , posted 08/23/05
