Excellent resource for mesa carriers
No long fancy reviews words here. Just a note from a reader/user of this book. I purchased it when I first became involved in the Pachakuti Mesa tradition. I found it to be an excellent resource, both then and now. I'm an experiential learner by nature, but it is nice to have the written word to go back to when you have the proverbial "Huh?" or just need to refresh you memory about something. Matt has done an excellent job putting the practice into plain and simple language that anyone can understand. It is an excellent tool for bringing others into the work. I always go back to it when I'm trying to explain the mesa to new people. My favorite part of the book, though, is that every time I pick it up, I find something new, or find a message between the lines that I wasn't expecting. The book evolves with you as you move on the mesa path. If you haven't read the book, please do. If you have, check it out again. You might be surprised what you find!! - onlineDarcy , posted 03/16/07

From the back cover of the Book:
There is an inherent human urge to explore and understand the mysteries of the universe and to discover the role we play within it. In addition, there has also been a consistent inner call to dive into the depths of our hearts, to explore human potential, and to live as examples of authenticity and truth. The Pachakuti Mesa is a personal alter used ceremonially to access spiritual forces and energies for the purposes of healing, the advancement of consciousness, and the restoration of balance on both individual and collective levels. This system of medicine work stems from the Earth-based shamanic practice of Northern Coastal and Southeastern Andean regions of Peru. Ultimately, the Pachakuti Mesa acts as the shamans's tool, an instrument of sacred technology, which is used to access and cultivate an intimate relationship with Spirit, which in its nature is mystery.

Endorsements:
Since first encountering many years ago the powerful, magical universe of the Peruvian mesa tradition through the Shaman, Don Eduardo Cadleron, I have been waiting for this book. It did not disappoint me. It is a clear, scholarly account of mesa practice, its place in the larger shamanic tradition; the metaphysical geography reflected in the mesa, the archetypal powers and beings made accessible by the mesa ceremonies, and how to construct successful ceremonies for healing purposes. Matthew Magee has done an excellent job both of researching and writing this core study on Peruvian shamanism through the intriguing symbolic universe of the Pachakúti Mesa. Here on the magician-healer's small table of symbols hovers the entire universe of accessible powers: the spirits of the four directions, the great South American mountains, the native spirits and the human ancestors. The book discusses these spiritually charged matters in a readable, clear, ethical presentation of how the shaman can prepare and work with these spiritual powers.
–Stephen Larsen, author of The Shaman’s Doorway, A Fire in the Mind, The Mythic Imagination, and other books.

Peruvian Mesa Shamanism spans several traditions and countless centuries. In this remarkable book, Matthew Magee has distilled the essence of its oral traditions, its disciplined practices, and its ritual performances. The result is an accessible narrative that provides his readers with a treasured gift, one that will move them and, in some cases, change the way they live their lives.
