I have been going to Sushi Ota since Ota-san left Mr Sushi to start his own place. The level of excellence and attention to detail in the selection, variety, preparation and presentation of the food served in this establishment sets the benchmark against which all other sushi restaraunts should be judged. Ota-san is simply a master chef, what's more, his consistently impecable quality on a daily basis elevates him further to the level of genius. I've heard some people complain about a less than friendly wait, about a lack of exciting decor, about a drab location..blah..blah...blah...whatever peoples!! This place is more authentic than most places in town but what really sets it apart is the quality of the fish!! Come on when it comes down to it, you can't do much to hide this simple little telling matter about sushi. If it matters I sometimes wonder who the hell is this person to say blah....blah...blah...so...I've fished and eaten fish all my life, my whole family fishes, my brother is a commercial fisherman, I've lived in Japan and researched food while there and made and consumed Sushi in most parts of the Tohoku region of Japan. so it's hard to give somewhere your rating for best sushi in SD without sounding a bit snobby...so gimme a little slack. I'm really just trying to say that sushi ota is absolutely the best sushi in SD. hands down. no arguments, i don't care how good the roll was at oni or whatever arg you have to offer. just go to sushi ota, really. if you can, bring someone who can read japanese, so that they can tell you what's on the 'other' menu.
